Ten months ago Paul was diagnosed with terminal cancer – a massive & devastating shock to him & his loved ones.
Many cycles of chemotherapy later, numerous hospital admissions and other challenges – all managed with his usual determination, polite, friendly and ‘no moaning’ attitude – the sad decision came that further chemotherapy was not an option.
Five weeks ago Paul was admitted to Rowcroft Hospice, after having been supported by their fantastic community team. Without them those last weeks would have been so much harder, in fact impossible. They have allowed us to make precious memories whilst ensuring our beloved Paul was cared for & comfortable, looking after us all as much as him.
The team have become friends, who Paul would banter with & seek reassurance from, with us all laughing and crying with, nothing was too much trouble.
Our hearts were broken when Paul passed away peacefully, aged 56 years, with his family around him on Tuesday 7th May 2024 at Rowcroft, leaving behind his wife Kate, children Hollie, Daniel, Brooke, Jake & Ben, grandson Mason and not forgetting his beloved dog Maisie, along with his other devoted family members.
We miss him so much it hurts and our lives will never be the same. An amazing person, who would do anything for anyone, always putting others first – even up until his last days. Always so humble about his impressive and successful footballing career.
He fought hard, he fought bravely… but this was a battle that couldn’t be won.
Paul was adamant we would be fundraising for Rowcroft Hospice in the future, saying he felt like he was coming ‘home’ after a trip out to attend the last home match of Torquay United on 20th April - so all donations in his memory will be for this amazing charity.
